"Entrepreneurs and small business owners often have two misconceptions about brand design: that it is either very easy, or very complicated. Those who think it is very easy think that it involves just designing a logo. Those who think it is very complicated think that it involves many deep, thoughtful, and time-consuming exercises, and that you have to hire high-priced consultants. In reality, it is somewhere in between."

The SAC® Release by Alan Weiss: Organizations Choose Office Furniture More Carefully Than Consultants
"Erin Ferree, Owner of elf deisgn in Belmont, CA, has found that "The two main problems that I see are: The buyer doesn't take the time to truly understand the solution the consultant's offering, and whether it will truly fill the needs. And, the consultant doesn't take the time to really understand the needs of the buyer, and whether their solution will create positive results."

Digital Women: Brain Gain
"I'm a graphic designer, and my hobby is writing recipes. I send out recipe cards with an original, seasonal recipe 4 times a year, reminding my clients that I can "cook up fresh designs" for them.

I get a great response rate, even from the old cards that people then put in their recipe boxes and pull out later. Also, many clients pass the cards along to friends and associates and then request new ones for themselves.

I've even included a page on my website where visitors can sign up for the recipe cards and view archived recipes, at: http://elf-design.com/recipes.html".

Get Clients NOW July 2003: How Many Hats Can One Person Wear
"You need to find one sentence -- listing no more than three items -- that describes in a nutshell what you do. Here are some examples. Rick Evans of RAE Consultants describes himself as a "coach, trainer, and facilitator." His programs and services "improve workplace effectiveness." Erin Ferree of Elf Design helps companies "increase their visibility and improve their image," by offering "logo, print, and web design."

These three-item lists, along with a simple tag line, are easy to remember. Many people who hear about you will not be ready to do business with you right away, so you want them to remember you when they ARE ready."
